It’s common to assume that life followed around by cameras lacks privacy. And, that assumption isn’t wrong. Every move you make is not only being watched but it’s also being recorded and then re-watched by hundreds of thousands of people. Similar to social media nowadays, you’re always under a microscope. However, don’t read that wrong. None of that truth is meant to be negative. It’s just the truth about this type of lifestyle.
For me and Tyler, the hardest part about adjusting to a life behind cameras from our early MTV days was not having ANY privacy. We knew going into filming that we had to be 100 percent real and honest in order to be relatable to viewers. We had to become comfortable with sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly with not just each other but also with the producers and the rest of the world.
But, now with it having been part of our lives for so long, life feels the same with and without the cameras because we’ve learned how to be our unapologetic selves.
Where Work And Family Come Together

Over the years our crew has become our family and we look at them as nothing less than that. Like I said, we have shared some of our most intense moments with the show. So, naturally, our crew has experienced it all with us- the good, the bad, and the ugly. Our bond with them is incomparable.

A lot happens behind the scenes that viewers might not ever know about. After all, this is a full time job and then some. Our hours aren’t the usual 9 AM to 5 PM shifts. We are constantly working around the clock with our crew.
A day of filming isn’t just about having cameras behind us and in front of us. When prepping to film we need to have some sort of idea of what we’re filming. Even though it’s our reality, we still need to make sure that we’re sharing quality content that viewers want to watch. Time is money and we can’t just wing it every time. We need to create some sort of outline for our day to film with a purpose.
After filming is the editing process so we need to make sure that we create enough content for the editing team to work with. For example, we can film for an entire day for maybe one hour of airtime total. So, the details really matter- making sure that we are being raw and real with everything we do.
And, for anyone who is curious about how this has shaped the kids growing up, we are blessed to say that it’s been nothing sure of great. The girls absolutely love having the crew around. They’ve pretty much known them their entire lives so they see them as family just as much as we do.

Novalee is ALWAYS asking “When if the gang coming?” And Vaeda loves being the center of attention. Seeing herself on the camera is becoming one of her favorite past times. Although Rya is still too young to know what’s going on, we’re confident that she’ll grow up to be just as on board as the rest of us.
We Wouldn’t Trade It For Anything
No matter the road blocks, we wouldn’t trade in this life for the world. We know that our story has helped thousands of people on similar paths. To have a job that is emotionally fulfilling and enjoyable is equivalent to breathing in fresh air everyday. And, working alongside a team that always has your back, supports you and shares so much love, well, that’s striking gold.
We’re grateful that our life is what it is. With or without the cameras we are always being our most authentic selves with each other, our friends, our family and the world.
