Tyler has always been capable of sweeping me off my feet. But, there’s something about when he writes me his poetry that the butterflies inside me grow bigger. He is full of so many emotions, endless thoughts, and genuine love. And, his poems are his way of expressing that. Not only that, writing is his release. It’s where he can gather his thoughts and make sense of them to clear his head.

The inspiration behind his work is me, obviously. Haha just kidding. Well, sort of. Tyler uses poetry as an outlet to communicate his emotions. And, anyone who’s been in a relationship knows that love comes with plenty of emotions that we all need an outlet for.

Besides love, poetry is also his coping method for exercising his mental health. It’s another form of therapy for him. It’s a coping skill that he can rely on anywhere he is and at any hour of the day or night. He would always talk to me about it as that thing that frees up his mind and soul. Being able to communicate your thoughts on paper makes them more tangible and easier to understand too. Sometimes we just need to see what we’re thinking to make full sense of it.

Therapy is something that we talk so highly of because of how much it helped us improve as individuals and as a couple too. Having that outlet alone is so healthy for the mind.

While in therapy you learn to become introspective and develop coping skills to work through your thoughts, similar to the way Tyler does with his poetry.

To pick a favorite one would be impossible. Each poem he writes has a different purpose from the next. And, to be honest I love learning about what’s circling through his head because it allows me to get to know him more than I already do.

BUT, you had to of expected a ‘but,’ haha. If I did have to pick the ones I love most, it’s the ones about me (of course). And I don’t mean that in a selfish way. The ones about me and about us together are the poems that I can relate to with him and create conversation over.

I do also love the poems in which he talks about mental health. After the pandemic, the world has become more comfortable with discussing mental health. This new transparency of our minds is helping so many people and reminding them that they’re not alone. And, I think that Tyler can be relatable to others who are experiencing similar things.
