Celebrating Easter At Ours With Our Chosen Family

We love having a reason to get together with the people closest to us. This past Sunday we celebrated Easter at our house with everyone in our family from DNA sharers to best friends. The Easter Bunny brought enough candy for the kids to last the summer, and we will definitely pay the price. Their sugar highs are no joke.

Tyler and I started the day by waking up the kids to open up their baskets and go on the hunt for eggs. Nova was the most excited about finding eggs. Her eyes were on the prize(s) for sure that morning. Vaeda had fun too but she wasn’t as into it as her older sister. Not yet at least. We’re expecting a competition between the sisters eventually, hahaha. Rya just hung out with us and watched her two sisters get hyper off all of the candy.

Family Is Family And Everyone’s Invited

Tyler and I are what we call “the mom & dad” of holiday feasts with our friends. Whenever a special day on the calendar comes around we [of course] invite our immediate family but, the invitation is always extended to our chosen family, our friends.

Not all of our friends have families of their own so we make it a point to bring them into ours. We believe that family can be anyone. Anyone who reciprocates love, trust, respect and care is welcomed into our world. And, our friends are the best for that. We are just as grateful for them as we are for anyone we share DNA with.

This Easter we celebrated with Tyler’s nephew and a bunch of our friends. It was heartwarming to have everyone that we love most and is most important to us, with us around the table. That was definitely the best part of the day.

Traditions are awesome. They’re a fun way to hold a family and/or friends accountable to stay close. It’s something to look forward to on a yearly basis.

We don’t have a specific Easter tradition besides getting together with family. However, we do have a tradition for the day after Easter.

Every year, the day after Easter, we cook ham and bean soup, our favorite!
